Rayuela (Spanish for ‘Hopscotch’) is inspired by the ludic atmosphere of literature by Argentinean writer Julio Cortázar.

Rayuela (Spanish for ‘Hopscotch’) is inspired by the ludic atmosphere of literature by Argentinean writer Julio Cortázar. The type family was designed between 1999 & 2000 during two European postgraduate courses: MA in typeface design, University of Reading (UK), and later at the ANRT, atelier national de recherche typographique (Nancy, FR). The challenge was to design a letterform that could create an informal atmosphere while still being comfortably readable. Rayuela was PampaType’s first multi-style family. Since then, other families of the foundry (such as Borges, Arlt, or Perec) have followed a similar spirit, building a system whose personality relies more on variety than on rigid consistency.
